Biography

Lorenz Karls was born in Vienna into an Austrian-Swedish family. He began playing the violin at age 4 and is currently a student at University Mozarteum, Salzburg.

To highlight some of his soloist appearances in the last seasons, should be mentioned his appearance at the Mozartwoche Salzburg in the Great Hall of the Mozarteum Foundation followed by concerts with Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra, WDR Funkhausorchester, Lithuanian National Philharmonic Orchestra, Armenian State Symphony Orchestra, Camerata Bern, Odense Symfonieorkester, Kremerata Baltica, Hungarian Radio Symphony Orchestra the Auckland Philharmonic Orchestra and the Symphony Orchestra of Milan.

Lorenz is 1st Prize winner at Zhuhai international Mozart Competition, Ruggiero Ricci Violin Competition, Grumiaux -, Kocian – and Vivaldi International Violin Competitions as well as 2nd Prize winner at ”Andrea Postacchini international Competition”. Between 2020 to 2024 he received six top prizes from member competitions of “World Federation of Music Competitions”: 1st Prize at Zhuhai International Mozart Competition, 3rd Prizes at Michael Hill international Violin Competition, Seoul international Competition, Khachaturian international Competition, Tibor Varga international Violin Competition as well as at the “international Mozart Competition, Salzburg”.

Lorenz plays the G.B Guadagnini “ex-Bachmann” violin kindly loaned to him by the Stephan and Viktoria Schmidheiny Foundation and a Philipp Augustin violin Anno 2023, especially built for him.
